
The NBA's new 2022-23 City Editions Now an annual tradition that combines basketball with city identity
Finally, NBA teams today revealed the twenty-nine City Edition jerseys that we will see on the parquet floors during the 2022-23 season. This is a well-established tradition and one that fans await with great anticipation since - like the third football jerseys - City Editions those most leave room for imagination and experimentation. And so it was again this season, with very disparate designs, with each team choosing their preferred aesthetic direction for the jerseys then all produced by Nike (with one exception). As always, efforts were made to celebrate a specific part of each franchise's home city, dusting off old social colors, highlighting hidden and iconic aspects of each metropolis, and finding a way to connect city identity with basketball.
Then there are the jerseys designed by household names, designers and fans of the franchises who have had the opportunity to sign the jerseys of their favorite teams. As mentioned yesterday Ronnie Fieg created the entire new aesthetic identity of the New York Knicks, Daniel Arsham was responsible for the new Cleveland Cavaliers jersey entitled The Land, Big Sean co-created the Detroit Pistons jersey dedicated to the Santa Cecilia gymnasium, an undisputed venue for city youth basketball. Finally, the Golden State Warriors jersey created by local artist Allison Hueman to celebrate Women's Empowerment Month and featuring a large yellow rose at the bottom of the game uniform.
